Request Stop Payment on a Cheque

The application of cheques that’s also spelt as checks is an instrument which facilitates the exchange of cash to a specific payee by the financial institutions or banks. The cheques formulate the financial needs of the account holders in any bank. The request stop payment on a cheque serves to stop payment on a particular cheque on the payee’s request and this happens in case of mistakes in signature, input of amount, or when there is a fraud. The specific term of a cheque traces its origin in the ancient banking phenomenon and the bankers have to issue the cash in the request of the account holders who operate through their cheque books.

HSBC Bank being the largest banking groups worldwide and the 3rd largest company offers numerous facilities to its account holders and one of them being the request stop payment on a cheque.

The different elements in the application of a cheque comprise of cheque number, place of issue, date of issue, payees name, amount of the specific currency, signature of the drawer, routing or account number in MICR format, fractional routing number. Most of the time a payee accepting a cheque is sure to deposit it in his or her specific bank account and wait until the bank processes the cheque and provides him with the cash. In special cases the payee may also take the cheque to the branch of the drawee bank and get en-cashed. If the drawee bank tends to refuse to accept the cheque then the payee will have to return to his own bank from where he received the cheque. Due to insufficiency of cash the cheques tend to bounce back and when it’s approved then all the concerned accounts are credited and the cheque is marked with a ‘paid’ stamp and those cheques are recognized as a cancelled cheque.

The payee must inform the bank to stop payment on a cheque or he can send an e-mail to inform the stoppage of payment of the cheque. In case of a change in address or in the name of the payee the request for stopping payment on a cheque can be made.
